My name is Atesa Regalado and I’m from Los Angeles, California. I am currently a freshman majoring in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UC Davis. I hope to attend medical school and specialize in pediatrics.
I was born with mild developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and was fortunate to receive early treatment with a Pavlik harness. My mom was also born with hip dysplasia however because she wasn’t diagnosed at birth, she had to endure painful surgeries throughout her life ultimately requiring a total hip replacement. Due to her persistence and advocacy, I was treated as an infant preventing me from a lifetime of pain and similar hardships. This experience has made me deeply aware of the importance of early diagnosis, awareness, and advocacy.
I partnered with Miles4Hips in high school for my senior year research project to learn more about hip dysplasia and educate others on the topic. Now I am excited to serve as a Junior Board Member and support individuals who are struggling with Hip Dysplasia or whose loved ones are struggling.
