Enovy’s Story

Hello my name is Sophia. My baby girl, Enovy, was born with hip dysplasia, and I didn’t know what we were in for.

One day while changing her diaper I noticed that her right leg was a little shorter than the left. She was about 7 months old. I went to the emergency room, and the pediatrician there told me that she just needs time to grow.

But, as a mother, you have to listen to your gut. When you think or see something or feel something that seems “off” with your child, you need to get a second opinion. So, we went to a doctor at the Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. He took an x ray of her hip and legs and, sure enough, my baby had hip dysplasia!!

So, with the help of doing research and my creative ideas as a mother, we were blessed to get through three long months of my daughter being in a spica cast. My mother made special pillows so she could read in her car seat. With the help of online stories of other people going through this with the children and babies, we found out about the spica table – this was a big, big help!! And we also found out about the radio flyer tricycle – she love it, and it allowed her to go places and do activities!! From other parents, we also learned strategies and tips for changing her diaper!

Doing research by reading of other peoples’ hip dysplasia stories helped so much, along with the support of my mother, husband and friends.

Just know, you are not alone in the hip dysplasia world.

Enovy’s journey is not over yet. The doctor said when she turns three, she will have to have another surgery and be in a spica cast again. So, hopes and prayers that this will be it. Thank you and God Bless.
